Mornings In My Studio

There Are two ways to go about this,

  1. Read the old fashioned way which I will paste here>>

I get up at around 5am every morning to pee. But, in my little house in the backyard there’s no bathroom, so that means that peeing is either done

    1. outside in the cold, 2. inside in a cup(don’t judge me), or 3. I can make my way ALL THE WAY to the bathroom in my parents house.

The thing is, I used to just go right back to sleep after that. But in January this year I started hearing a small voice telling me that this was the time to get up and be creative. *jazz hands*

Of course I’m one of those artists who has always wanted to sleep innnn,  and paint late into the night with a glass of wine in one hand and a flat brush in the other!!

Truth be told, I’m not drinking alcohol right now as a personal challenge and, I'm honestly turning into my dad because when the clock hits 8:30 I’m like, “iiiiiii-t’s BEDtime”.

    Back To The Small Voice:

So this voice tells me to “Get Up And Create!” and In my head I picture it to be Jesus because that's just what I go to. So finally I decided to listen to it.

I woke up and, (first I peed) went into my studio without checking my phone, homemade soy latte in one hand and my sanity in the other, flipped on my little space heater and just started painting.

It was probably the calmest I’ve ever felt while painting. The sun came up around the time I was adding finishing touches, and I could just barely see it through the two small windows in the garage door.  So against everything telling me it was gonna be freezing cold, my inner child said, “lets just open the door and see what happens!”

So I opened the garage door and all the sun came flooding in, and all the hot air from my mini space heater went pouring out. Haha.

But it was worth standing in the cold air to realize that I need to do this WAY more often.

Here’s a List of what I’ve learned so far from spending “Mornings In my Studio”

    1. Creativity flowed more clearly than it does in the afternoon or night

    • I think that's because I wasn’t worn out by any external or internal stressors that occur throughout the day, and I wasn’t influenced by social media or other creatives. I just did what came naturally to me.

      2. More productive during the day

    • I got the painting done in the morning which left me with time to do the business side of things later in the day when I’m usually more tired

      3. Love painting in the morning because it’s SUNNY!

    • The garage studio faces North-East which means that there are only a few hours in the day that sunlight pours in. Those hours are sunrise, until about 9 am depending on the time of year.

      4. Everyone Else Is sleeping

    • a.k.a. NO INTERRUPTIONS, jus get ur done.

      5. Obeying my small voice is a good idea *Wink*

  2. Read the Seabrook edition way which I will paste here>>

Challenge to the reader

Is there anything your small voice has been telling you to do?

Anything that feels like a reoccurring missed opportunity?

Next time you get the chance, listen to it and see what happens
